Ingredients:
1/2 cup quick cook oats 2 T wheat germ (optional) 1 T vanilla soy milk powder 1 T sugar or 2 tsp packed brown sugar two dashes of salt (possibly more, depending on your taste buds)
Directions:
This recipe will make somewhat "plain" tasting oatmeal. If you like it sweet, double either of the sugars used. If you like it extra creamy, double or even triple the soy milk powder. Good additions are raisins, chopped nuts, chocolate chips, dried berries, dried apples, dried coconut, dried bananas. These should be added at the rate of 2-4 tablespoons per dish. Once you've made these additions you will need to use the mixes in a 3mo period. Spices are other good additions. Add these carefully, beginning with no more than 1 1/2 tsp of collective spices. Cinnamon is good and can be used more heavily than other spices. Nutmeg, allspice, cloves etc need to be use at the 1/4 tsp amounts to begin with. Using pumpkin pie or apple pie spice mixes helps balance the flavors. Add these starting at the 1.5 tsp amount and expand from there as necessary. To make each packet add 1 1/3 cups boiling water. Cover and allow to stand for 2-3min. Use more or less water based on desired thickness.
